ROAD to Housing Act Clears Senate Banking Committee, Paving Way for Expanded Housing Access
The bipartisan ROAD to Housing Act has cleared a major hurdle in Congress, passing the Senate Banking Committee with strong support from both sides of the aisle. This landmark legislation aims to improve housing affordability, expand access to homeownership, and reduce barriers to housing development—issues long championed by Community Action Agencies across the Southeast.
Backed by the American Bankers Association, the ROAD (Removing Obstacles to Affordable Development) Act includes targeted reforms designed to:
Streamline zoning and regulatory requirements
Promote public-private partnerships for affordable housing
Incentivize new housing development in underserved communities
Support first-time homebuyers with greater financing options
“This bill represents a step forward for low- and moderate-income families who’ve been locked out of homeownership or burdened by rising housing costs,” said a SEACAA spokesperson. “Community Action Agencies welcome this kind of systemic change that aligns with our mission of building resilient and thriving communities.”
As housing challenges continue to impact both rural and urban areas throughout the Southeast, SEACAA supports the swift passage of this bill through the full Senate and into law.
