October is Head Start Awareness Month — a time to shine a spotlight on early childhood education, family support, health & nutrition, and the powerful foundation these services provide.
Here at Lowcountry Community Action Agency, Inc. (LCAA), we held a vibrant Head Start Awareness Day to celebrate and raise awareness of this important work.
On October 22, LCAA welcomed families, children, staff and community partners to our Head Start facility on Burr Hill Road for an afternoon of fun, festivities and meaningful reflection on how Head Start supports children and their families. Our mission at LCAA is “to use partnerships and services to guide and ensure self-sufficiency, and economic independence within the community.”

Our Mission
At LCAA, our mission is “to use partnerships and services to guide and ensure self-sufficiency, and economic independence within the community.” Head Start is an essential pillar of this mission: by supporting children from preschool age, providing health and nutrition services, and engaging families and communities, we build a stronger future. At a time when funding, program support, and early childhood programs are under pressure, our Head Start families — often low-income, working parents — depend on these services to give children that “head start” in life. We want to remind everyone: Our children’s development can’t wait. We extend heartfelt thanks to all the families who attended, the staff who organized, our volunteers and community partners. And if you’re excited to join us in this work — either as a volunteer, donor or partner — please contact us at our Head Start Center or visit our website. Together, we’re giving children the foundation for a bright tomorrow.
