Each September, the Feeding America network launches its annual nationwide Hunger Action Month campaign to spread awareness and engage the public in the movement to end hunger. The campaign calls on individuals, organizations, and communities to work together so that no one has to wonder where their next meal will come from.
The reality is sobering: in 2022, more than 44 million people—1 in 7 individuals—experienced food insecurity in the U.S. These are parents working hard to provide for their families, seniors stretching fixed incomes, and children whose growth and education are impacted by lack of reliable nutrition.
The challenge is especially acute in the South. In Mississippi alone, 1 in 6 residents face food insecurity. Within the Mississippi Food Network’s service area, the numbers are even more stark: 1 in 4 children are at risk of going hungry. These statistics reflect the urgent need for continued awareness, advocacy, and community action.
Hunger Action Month is not just about raising awareness—it’s about mobilizing action. Communities can take part by:
Every small action contributes to a larger movement to build food security, stability, and hope.
As SEACAA works to fight poverty and empower communities across the South, we join the Feeding America network in calling for collective action. Together, we can build stronger, healthier communities where no child, senior, or family has to go to bed hungry.
This September, make hunger personal. Wear orange. Lend your voice. Take action. Because when we come together, we can end hunger.
