During the month of May, Central Kentucky Community Action Council (CKCAC) joins Community Action Agencies across the nation in celebrating Community Action Month — a time to recognize the powerful impact of local action in lifting families out of poverty and building stronger communities.

For over 50 years, CKCAC has served the people of Breckinridge, Grayson, Hardin, LaRue, Marion, Meade, Nelson, and Washington counties with a wide range of programs that promote economic stability, educational opportunity, healthy living, and self-sufficiency. From Head Start early childhood education to senior transportation, housing assistance, workforce development, and energy services, CKCAC remains a vital resource for Kentuckians in need.

This year’s Community Action Month theme, “All Hands on Deck for America’s Communities,” reflects CKCAC’s ongoing commitment to partnerships, innovation, and equity. As economic challenges continue to impact families across Kentucky, Community Action remains at the forefront — not just providing emergency support, but helping individuals create long-term pathways out of poverty.

“Community Action is about more than assistance — it’s about empowerment,” said CKCAC Executive Director Cheri Johnson. “We are proud to work with so many dedicated partners, community leaders, and families who believe in building a better future, together.”
