Urgent Alert for North Carolina!

Recent legislative actions have left North Carolina unable to fully protect our water and communities, putting our environment and public health at risk. Advocacy groups are calling on the EPA to step in and help safeguard our vital resources.

The Southern Environmental Law Center and other conservation organizations are calling on the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to step in and ensure the protection of our communities and environment. Legislative-induced failure is not an option when it comes to safeguarding North Carolina’s water.

“Join us in demanding action from the EPA to protect our water and communities! Every voice counts in the fight for clean water.”

“The people of North Carolina deserve clean water, yet the state legislature is preventing the state from limiting toxic pollution of our waterways and drinking water,” says Mary Maclean Asbill, Director of the North Carolina Offices at the Southern Environmental Law Center.

Recent legislative actions have severely undermined the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality’s ability to protect our waters from harmful pollutants like PFAS, 1,4-dioxane, mercury, and arsenic. As a result, North Carolina rivers, lakes, and drinking water sources are at risk, and the state is struggling to enforce necessary water quality standards.

It’s crucial that we stay informed and engaged in this fight for clean water and healthy communities. Join us in raising awareness and urging our leaders to take the necessary steps to protect North Carolina’s environment and future.
